IN a time of WAR where you are the JUSTIFIED "good-SIDE" and you do not have adequate prison space and or in a case of direct action defense ~ obviously you may need to inflict LETHAL FORCE. (tragic but justified)
IN PRESENT DAY, To take the life of someone as they do when they call it the "death penalty" is in fact : MURDER. Considering someone who is in CUSTODY and detained, it is JUST PLAIN WRONG to "death penalty" someone out in that way...
DETAINMENT is the issue. IN fact, I am confident that if we would release the INNOCENT PEOPLE who should NOT be in prison and restructure how the prisons function ~ we would have more than AMPLE resources to devote to the VIOLENT or otherwise THEFTLY PRISON population.
Now, in the case where an INMATE decides to voluntarily* take a LETHAL-INJECTION/doctor- assisted-suicide ~ well, that is one thing which may be considered applicable...(*without any coersion, of course)
Picture instead of "the executioner" there is "the QUESTIONER". The CRIMINAL-inmate would not "have to"(be forced to) answer questions, however he would be encouraged to. On some levels there is perhaps a mode of healing. Maybe a sense of healing and understanding for the victim, for the criminal and for society at large.
This is NOT about being "soft on crime", this is about moving away from a procedure which really has a really "bad vibe" connected with it.
LIFE SENTENCE IS THE IDEATION, NOT THE DEATH PENALTY
